The Holland Marsh is 10,000 acres of valuable farmland that is situated on floodplain. Using 33 acres of this for a gas-fired power plant is most definitely the wrong location.

George Smitherman, one of the Liberal politicians who were involved in the eHealth scandal labeled people who have spoken out as NIMBY’s (not in my back yard). This truly is not a case of NIMBYism – it is a case of legislations being violated and bad judgement on behalf of the provincial government.

The provincial managers want to build a power plant in close proximity to a Specialty Crop Area, in the floodplain (according the Provincial Policy Statement), in the Greenbelt (supposed to be protected area by legislation), beside a 270 acre nature reserve and within 3 miles of an 880 acre environmental research reserve. What is wrong with this picture?

If you are an Ontario resident and if you eat vegetables then 50% of what you eat comes from the Holland Marsh. Please help the farmers protect their land – and tell the provincial government not to violate legislation.
